CHRIS SHELTON: COMPOSER
Chris Shelton is an internationally performed, award-winning composer whose music has been played by ensembles such as:
PHACE, JACK Quartet, and the SOLI Chamber Ensemble.
His composition and theory teachers include: Pozzi Escot, John Bavicchi, Paul Richards, James Sain, Vuk Kulenovic, and Roger Graybill. Additional studies with: Justin Dello Joio, George Tsontakis, and Oliver Weber. His compositions range from solo works to orchestral pieces whose styles include: Neo-Classical, Post-Modern, Electroacoustic, and Marches. He has had works performed in South America, Europe, and throughout the United States and as a founding member of the Boston-based composers’ group Aggregate he has had pieces, ranging from solo piano to string orchestra, performed in and around the Boston area and in New York.
Chris has been part of international festivals around the world, where he has had his music premiered and recorded, and has given lectures on the process of composition.
FESTIVALS AROUND THE WORLD
Chris has been part of numeous festivals around the world, where he had his music performed. In July 2018, the piece SALEM'S LOT was premiered in the Alba Festival of Music in Alba, Italy where it was perfomed by the chamber music group SOLI. In September 2018, the piece MORNING COMUTE was premiered in the São Paulo Contemporary Composers Festival, in São Paulo, Brazil. In May, 2019, the piece SERPENT MOUND was premiered in the Vienna Summer Music Festival, where in was performed by the group PHACE.
Morning Commute was written about the time the composer's spent in São Paulo, Brazil. The piece depicts a typical hectic morning routine experienced by the millions of Paulistanos going to work.
It is a piece of contemporary tonal music that begins with a minimalist feel, before pushing forward in the direction of a film score.

Chris has written prolifically since he started studying Composition at Berkelee College of Music. His award-winning compositions range from Neo-Classical to Experimental Electroacoustic, and while composing primarily for concert band Chris has been commissioned to compose for various chamber ensembles.
Music for the Silver Screen was inspired by the great film scores written from the late 1960's to the early 1990's.
The piece takes the listener on an powerful auditory experience that evokes scenes of adventure, nostalgia, and triumph.
