Chris Shelton is an internationally performed, award winning composer and teacher of music theory, music technology, music production, composition, and guitar. His music has been performed by ensembles such as: PHACE, JACK Quartet and the SOLI Chamber Ensemble. He is currently a doctoral student in composition at the University of Florida and has earned a Bachelor of Music degree in composition from Berklee College of Music and a Master of Music degree in Theoretical Studies from New England.
His composition and theory teachers include: Pozzi Escot, John Bavicchi, Dr. Paul Richards, Dr. James Sain, Vuk Kulenovic, and Dr. Roger Graybill. Additional studies with: Dr. Justin Dello Joio, George Tsontakis, and Oliver Weber. His compositions range from solo works to orchestral pieces whose styles include: Neo-Classical, Post-Modern, Electroacoustic, and Marches. He has had works performed in South America, Europe, and throughout the United States. As a founding member of the Boston-based composers’ group Aggregate he has had pieces, ranging from solo piano to string orchestra, performed in and around the Boston area and in New York.
As both a performer and composer, Chris has recorded pieces with various ensembles which has given him extensive studio recording experience. While with these ensembles, Chris has performed on a regular basis in New York’s Greenwich Village, in and around Boston, and has toured throughout the East Coast of the United States, including Philadelphia and Baltimore, and the Midwest and west, including Oberlin College, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
